舞踏為二次大戰後發展出的現代舞形式，與德國碧娜·鮑許Pina Bausch的舞蹈劇場及美國後現代舞並列為當代三大舞蹈新流派！
打破西方對古典舞蹈的美學觀點，舞踏追求肉體上的心靈解放和自由。舞踏的舞者通常全身赤裸並塗滿白粉，表演中常包含吶喊、扭曲、匍匐、蟹足等元素。
